It's thing like this that reassure me that I made the right decision to bail out. I can't believe I fell for this nonsense a couple of years ago.

You have got to be kidding me. Didn't masses of people leave after they made all those false predictions years ago? You would think they would've learned their lesson by now.
Besides, the Bible explicitly states that not even Jesus knows when the end is coming, so how can the human race have any inkling?

Witness Costume Parties?
by shamus indoes anyone remember a watchtower saying that costume parties were inappropriate for christians?
i seem to remember that they were labeled in the "deamon" category, even if you had one and it had nothing to do with halloween.. is this true?
does anyone remember this crap?

They emphasized the points that it was wrong to dress up because it was a form deceiving people. Why would a true Christian want to deceive others?
One time for Halloween, my friend dressed up as a goblin. I didn't recognize him, and honestly thought he was a real goblin, so I shot him. If he wouldn't have deceived me, he would still be alive.
ROFL! That was entirely fabricated. But seriously, how in the hell do you deceive people by dressing up? I mean, have you ever not been able to recognize your friends at any party? ROFL!
I'm not sure if I should be sickened by the stupidity of the quoted statement, or roll around on my floor laughing. Guess I'll do both.

The Revolving Door; Does Nobody Notice?
by shamus inthink about a typical dub.. you get brought into the truth.
the person that brought you into the truth brings in, say, 2 people.
yourself and another... 1 person stays, the other leaves.

I thought your post referred to the revolving door, does anybody notice what goes on HERE?
That's not uncommon on any message board. People get busy in real life, or move on to other interests.
It's not like posting at some message board is comparable to religious devotion.

Refuting the whole WT Org in one question...
by Confucious ini'm testing my hypothosis here.... the question is this.... "does the wt org.
get special revelations from god today.".
if they answer "yes," then they are going against the bible which says that all scripture is complete.. if the say "no," then we can say, "then why do you say we should follow you.".

This is a false dilemma. You a presenting a case where you say there is only one alternative, when in fact, there may be more. The scriptures do say all scripture is complete and beneficial for teaching, reproving, blah, blah, blah, but that doesn't say God cannot come along and help folks along. That verse doesn't say that the completeness of the scriptures precludes God doing something extra-scriptural from time-to-time. I'm not saying God did or does, mind you, but your use of that verse does NOT preclude intervention from God, whether it be some spectacular miracle or just every-day inspiration. You know, the kind that happens all the time in a certain Brooklyn printing Corporation. Or when the fat loser wins the $45,000,000 lottery. God works in weird ways.
: If the say "No," then we can say, "Then why do you say we should follow you."
Even the JWs admit that the Bible provides guidelines by which people should live. So depending on your persective, Confucious is right. After all, if the Bible provides guidelines which can help anybody answer any problem, then why follow some society?
However, I see where you're coming from. It wouldn't make sense for God to produce the Bible and then go on vacation. Heh, it's like God decided to hit the links while us dumb humans are scrambling around trying to piece things together.
Also, the WTS does enforce the "fact" that the average person is "too dumb" to figure out the Bible for him/herself, and thus needs the
Witchtower Bible Trick SocietyFaithful and Discreet slave to interpret it for him/her. -

Matrix Revolution
by Sassy ini was fortunate enough to be able to preview the movie a week earlier than it's actual release.
my bf and i enjoyed it.. i hope you all do.

The first Matrix is okay; the second one didn't impress me. My friend more or less conned me into watching both of them.
The plot of the second on seemed to make little sense. I think the whole point of the movie is just to show off Neo's super powers and use special effects, and smoke and mirrors to impress people.
For one thing, Trinity and an agent start off falling from a building shooting at each other, yet they miss constantly. Now, unless they have awful aim, this part is ridiculous. They are at point blank rage. They are in the middle of free fall. It doesn't show either party dodging bullets. Why all the mis-fires?
Another thing someone else brought up from another forum: The movie mentions the sentinals are about to invade Zion, yet very little of the movie actually deals with this issue.
But that's just me. If you enjoy the series, then have fun.

What scams did you use for counting your time?
by Ivor Hope in.
flowerpetals post and thread reminded me of some of the scams we would use to try to show the maximum numbers of hours spent in "service" for the smallest amount of effort.
here's some of the ones i remember...just wondered if any of you had any other memories.. .

The guy I studied with said I could count time I spend with my parents on the weekends as return visits, so long as I talk about the Bible.
Also, you know how they only count full hours? In the congregation I last went to, they would carry over extra minutes into the next month.
I pay good money to get music video channels, so why is it they are no longer showing music?
It's been like this for a long time. I liked it when they actually showed music videos, had Beavis and Butthead, and Daria.
Now it's more or less a bunch of real TV garbage. I haven't the foggiest idea how anybody could find any of this stuff entertaining or educational. I mean, as a college student, the last thing I want to watch on TV are a bunch of college students living in a dorm or discussing foreign policy.

What Willy said. There ain't no girl, boy, woman, or man, that's worth gving up your freedom and peace of mind.
Wow, I'm so glad I read this thread. There is a JW girl I'm hopelessly in love with, but I think you all are right; it's just not worth it. There are more fish in the sea.

When JW's Marry Jailbirds
by simplesally ini guess because there are so few brothers in the congregations, sisters start writing to brothers that are in prison.
in prison, these ne'er do wells have no bills, no job to commute to, 3 meals, a bed, free medical insurance and loads of time to read the bible and the wts publications.
oh my, kinda like bethel.

Geez, this just shows how stupid the duds are. You all are right; they would be better off marrying a nice guy with a decent job. Oh wait, there is no such thing as a nice guy unless you are a baptized JW. My bad......
